Film aficionados may know Czech composer Leos Janáček from hearing his non-vocal music in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Hipster concert pianist Christopher O’Riley, who has recorded two critically-praised CD interpretations of the music of British alt-pop band Radiohead, takes on Bartok’s 3rd Piano Concerto. The program finishes with Brahms Symphony No. 1, sometimes referred to as “Beethoven’s Tenth,” because in it, Brahms pays homage to his great predecessor.
