January 11, 2005

(SANTA ROSA, CA) öThe Santa Rosa Symphony opens its Viennaâs Golden Age Festival on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. at Sonoma Country Day Schoolâs elegant Jackson Theater. The first program of this four-concert series features Jeffrey Kahane on piano and the Santa Rosa Symphony Chamber Players performing two works: Haydnâs jubilant Piano Trio in C Major and Schubertâs romantic Trio in E-flat major. The program will be followed by a reception for musicians and patrons.

The Festival is hosted by Kahane, who takes audiences on an excursion to late 18th century Vienna, an important intellectual and cultural crossroads that was referred to by Mozart in 1781 as ãthe best place in the world for my profession.ä Kahane offers his cultural and historical insights from the stage in the popular interactive style that is his trademark.

After the initial January program, the balance of Viennaâs Golden Age series will showcase revered works by Mozart and Beethoven. The second and third festival concerts take place at the Jackson Theater on March 5 and April 2. The Festival finale÷a full symphonic performance of Beethovenâs Piano Concerto No. 4, again featuring Jeffrey Kahane on piano÷will take place at Luther Burbank Center on April 30 at 8 p.m.

The 2005 Viennaâs Golden Age Festival is made possible by a grant from Jackson Wine Estates. Additional underwriting was provided by the James Irvine Foundation, Community Foundation Sonoma County and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Single tickets are $22 or $30. Call (707) 546-8742 or visit the Symphony Box Office on the first floor of the North Coast Bank building at 50 Santa Rosa Avenue, Santa Rosa, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Advance purchase is recommended, but tickets will be available at the door subject to availability.
