(SANTA ROSA, CA) ö Santa Rosa Symphony audiences will receive a Valentine this year in the person of Joana Carneiro, the first of seven music director candidates to appear in concert with the orchestra. She will conduct on February 12, 13, and 14 and will participate in the pre-concert ćconversationsä along with a host interviewer. During her week in Santa Rosa, Carneiro will also direct all orchestra rehearsals, and meet with members of the Symphony board, staff, and Music Director Search Committee.

The much-heralded, 28-year-old Carneiro is assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic as an American Symphony Orchestra League Conducting Fellow. In this 4th concert set of the season, she will introduce herself to Santa Rosa audiences and musicians with a program that includes Dukasā Fanfare from La Peri and The Sorcererās Apprentice, Debussyās Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun, Ravelās Tzigane and Brahmsā Symphony No. 2.

Featured soloist on the Ravel piece is Karen Shinozaki Sor, Principal violinist of the Santa Rosa Symphony. Santa Rosa Symphony concerts are Saturday and Monday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa. Concert Conversations begin one hour prior to the performances, and are made possible by Quivira Estate Vineyards and Winery.
