(SANTA ROSA, CA) Santa Rosa Symphony’s Youth Orchestra has announced four winners in its annual Concerto Competition: Jaime Feldman, first place: Adhish Yajnik, second place; Taylor McKinnie, third; and Annie Rodier, fourth.  The three young women and one young man, who range in age from 15-17, auditioned before a 3-judge panel of professional musicians, and live in the communities of Sebastopol, Rohnert Park, Petaluma and Santa Rosa. They each played the first movement of their chosen concertos.

The contest was open to all 55 Youth Orchestra members, nine of whom auditioned. Jaime Feldman, a cellist, took first place by performing Lalo’s Concerto in D minor. She is a sophomore at Summerfield Waldorf School in Sebastopol. Adhish Yajnik of Rohnert Park took second place with Stamitz’s Flute Concerto in D major. He is a junior at Montgomery High. Third place honors went to Taylor McKinnie, who played Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1. She is a senior at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma. And the fourth place winner was violinist Annie Rodier, a home-schooled high school student from Santa Rosa, who performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor.

A concerto is a classical composition in which a solo instrument plays supported by a full orchestra.

All four young musicians will perform with the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra in a Concerto Competition Winners Concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2007. The concert venue is Sonoma Country Day School’s Jackson Theater, and Youth Orchestra Music Director Dr. Richard Loheyde will conduct.

Tickets are $8 in advance; at the door $10 for seniors/students and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased through the Rosa Symphony Box Office: (707) 54-MUSIC.
