(SANTA ROSA, CA) –Santa Rosa Symphony has announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Loheyde to the position of Assistant Conductor. Loheyde has been the conductor of the Symphony’s Youth Orchestra since the summer of 2005.

As assistant conductor, Loheyde assists SRS Music Director Bruno Ferrandis at orchestra classical series rehearsals for the monitoring of balance; is available to conduct concerts other than the core classical performances; acts as a resource to the music director for youth concert presentations; and assists the music director with music research, preparation of concerts and special events. He also works cooperatively with Symphony administrative staff for speaking engagements as requested. All this will be in addition to Loheyde’s responsibilities as music director of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Maestro Ferrandis commented on the appointment: “Richard is a great asset to me because his ‘musical ears’ give me feedback concerning our musical output. Not only is he a conductor, but he’s a great pedagogue, a good educator and wonderful with young people, young musicians. He’s a lovely person to be with and a great collaborator.”

Loheyde remarked: “It is such a pleasure to be collaborating with a musician of Bruno’s caliber. I feel very fortunate to be in a position to learn the ropes from such a fine conductor. He is truly inspiring.”
