(SANTA ROSA, CA) –For the Santa Rosa Symphony’s February 16-18 concerts at the Wells Fargo Center, Music Director Bruno Ferrandis and the orchestra welcome Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter. In 2006, she was the recipient of the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award, only the fifth pianist to have been so honored. Fliter will play Beethoven’s 2nd piano concerto. Also on the program is an audience favorite, La Mer by Debussy, as well as Masques et Bergamasques by Fauré and Métaboles for Orchestra by contemporary French composer Henri Dutilleux (now in his nineties). This is the fifth of seven classical performances during the Symphony’s 80th Anniversary Season.
The Chicago Tribune says that 34-year old Ingrid Fliter is a pianist of “prodigious technique and a blazing temperament combined with a poetic sensibility.” Mark Swed of the Los Angeles Times says this impressive musician has garnered “the most buzz in the business.” She began playing public recitals at the age of eleven and made her professional orchestra debut at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires at the age of 16. After winning several competitions in Argentina, she went on to win first prizes at the Cantu International Competition and the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Italy.
She was the silver medalist in the Frederic Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2000. Fliter has performed with orchestras and in recital at major concert halls worldwide. In the 2006-2007 season, she performed at the Hollywood Bowl, the Caramoor and Chautauqua Festivals, with the Detroit and Columbus symphonies, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and in recital in San Francisco, Chicago, New York at Carnegie Hall and London at Wigmore Hall.
